Since more than 30 years, the Membrane Technology Group, led by Prof. Ivo Vankelecom, has gained profound expertise in membrane-based applications for solvent recycling, gas purification, drinking water and waste water treatment, fuel cells, batteries and bioreactors. Over 35 master students, technicians, PhD students and post-docs currently work on industry-funded projects or programs with national or international funding.
The Membrane Technology Group is part of the KU Leuven Chem&Tech interdisciplinary community, encompassing 500+ researchers with 18000 m² of brand new facilities, including pilot-scale infrastructure.
Our group aims at efficiently innovating the field of advanced membrane technology, starting from low technology readiness levels (TRL) developing new concepts at molecular level and using high-throughput testing equipment, and subsequently moving further towards roll-to-roll upscaling using unique pilot-scale membrane production facilities.
