Welcome
As part of the Department of Biosystems (Division of Animal and Human Health Engineering), our laboratory currently focuses its research towards (comparative) genomics and proteome analysis on a variety of biological systems, primarily aimed at micro-organisms and bacteriophage biology. We are continuously looking for collaborations with labs worldwide, for students interested in making internships (Erasmus, MSc thesis) or their PhD or for visiting scholars at the postdoctoral level. Within the Faculty of Bioscience engineering, teaching focuses on classes involving Bioinformatics and Genome Technology, Gene and Protein Technology and Applied Biotechnology.

Research updates
- Nature Communications published our phage therapy case of a victim of the 2016 Zaventem bombings infected with a MDR Klebsiella infection. Read more about it in a.o. El Pais - National Geographic - NewScientist
- Our latest two reviews published in Current Opinion in Virology focus on our view on machine learning in phage research and therapy to develop a digital phagogram and on the design rules for therapeutic phage cocktails using a shopping cart analysis.
- The research by Hendrix et al. has been published in Cell Reports. This research article focuses on the discovery of the phage-encoded Qst protein.
- A nice collaboration with the Drulis-Kawa group (Poland) has been published in ISME Journal and focuses on the impact of phage resistance evolution on bacterial fitness.
- In a PLoS Pathogens research paper, Cedric Lood et al. present new insights into a novel endemic cystic fibrosis Burkholderia multivorans strain.
