The COK (Centrum voor Oppervlaktechemie en Katalyse; Centre for Surface Chemistry and Catalysis) constitutes a large interdisciplinary team involved in teaching and research in the chemistry of the solid-gas, solid-liquid, and solid-solid interphases. The COK has been recognized in several ways to be a centre of excellence for research and teaching of interphase chemistry and catalysis at KU Leuven and to promote interphase chemistry and catalysis at European and international levels. It relies on advanced research instruments and a highly motivated technical and scientific staff.
The COK typically bridges fundamental research, as evidenced via numerous high impact papers, and industrial applications of its developments, as witnessed in a set of around 20 patents yearly, several spin-offs and tens of on-going industrial collaborations.
Over the past years, the COK has grown substantially and currently counts more than 120 people.
