KLIMOS - Research Platform Climate Change and Development Cooperation

What?

  • KLIMOS is an interdisciplinary and interuniversity research platform working on climate change adaptation and mitigation in development aid.
  • We study how the three major research themes
    • Energy
    • Food security
    • Forest
can be integrated in a sustainable way.

Goal

  • Developing a sound knowledge base on the consequences of climate change in developing countries.
  • Sharing this knowledge with stakeholders as the governmental and non-governmental organizations and the private sector, in North and South.

Research platform for development cooperation

KLIMOS is an O*platform, a research platform for development cooperation, supported by VLIR-UOS, the Flemish universitary council for universitary development cooperation. These research platforms aim at

  • collecting scientific knowledge of specific development themes,
  • pooling the expertise knowledge of different sectors and disciplines and
  • supporting the development aid policy of the Belgian government.

Structure of the platform

Ten research groups of three different universities and one college are involved in KLIMOS:

The consortium is guided by a steering group, which consists of representatives of the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation (DGDC), VLIR-UOS, K.U.Leuven and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

In addition, a KLIMOS-network of non-profit organisations and public organisations gives additional input regarding the content of the KLIMOS-activities.
