Welcome to the Laboratory for Fruit Breeding and Biotechnology (LFBB)

Laboratory for Fruit Culture and Biotechnology (LFBB)

Our mission is to conduct excellent research in plant sciences biology for the improvement of fruit production and quality, to protect the environment and to benefit consumer health.

RESEARCH

The main research focus of the group is the development of tools for breeding for improved fruit quality (texture, taste, storage ability), phytopathogen resistance (both in the field and post-harvest), and on understanding the mechanisms of plant adaptation to (a)biotic stress, in particular the roles of antioxidant metabolism (vitamin C, phenolics etc.). The lab works primarily with hard fruit (apples, pears), but also has projects on tomato, strawberry and intends to expand to other areas of perennial small fruit production.
