The finite element method (FEM) is commonly used for a wide variety of agricultural engineering problems such as heat and moisture transfer, analysis of deformation and many more. Commercial finite element analysis software and the computing devices are now powerful enough to handle objects with complex shapes. The first step in the FEM is to construct a geometric model of the agricultural object to be analyzed. This model must be defined manually which is complicated because of the complex shape of most agricultural products. In this page an image processing system based on computer vision system generating 3D geometric models of agricultural products such as apples and pears is shown. An application of the procedure is illustrated by a modal analysis example. This page contains some initial images and pictures of the models.
